Build in 1911 as a sanatorium ("Waldsanatorium"), the Waldhotel Davos was operated as such until 1957. The conversion to the Waldhotel followed immediately afterwards. A lot of investments were made in the years and decades following, always modernizing and improving the house. Unfortunately a lot of the art nouveau style of the original building was lost in the process. The foundation walls and premises remained however and so the house still radiates an unmistakable character. Many of the old elements found a renewed modern revival during the big renovation of 2005/06, which was led by the architect-team Pia Schmid and Hans-Jörg Ruch. Comfortable bar armchairs, elegant restaurant chairs as well as the delicate banisters were all recreated true to the original. The old paneled ceiling in the dining-hall was exposed and restored, the new overhead lighting in the bar, in the dining-hall and the restaurant can be found in earlier photographs. And not to forget, the old and original deck-chairs typical to Davos were restored and are available now for relaxing moments on all south-facing balconies. The feeling of the Magic Mountain sends its greetings.
