Discover two extraordinary artistic worlds – and what surprisingly connects them.
Ernst Ludwig Kirchner and Pablo Picasso shaped 20th-century art like few other artists. While Picasso is celebrated as the inventor of Cubism, Kirchner represents the expressive power of German Expressionism. Both developed radical visual languages, both influenced their time – and left a lasting mark on subsequent generations.
This current exhibition highlights previously little-noticed connections and differences in the work of these two exceptional talents: from their exploration of identity, body and gender to the role of the artist in a changing society – the exhibition invites visitors to discover parallels and contrasts in the work of the two artists. The focus is on painting, supplemented by selected sculptures, graphic works and drawings.
Located in the Waldhotel just above the Kirchner Museum, you will find the perfect accommodation for your visit to the exhibition. In addition to admission to the museum, a high-quality giveaway is included in the package. If you come on a Tuesday or Sunday, a guided tour of the exhibition is offered too. You will also receive a 25% discount on the premium exhibition catalogue.
